This gorgeous and delicate miniature ginger jarlett is Vietnamese in origin and dates from the Ming Dynasty period. Made circa 1450 A.D., this 560 year old jarlett was found in the salvage of a sunken vessel in the summer of 1998 and 1999 in the South China sea, 70 meters off shore from the Vietnamese port of Hoi An.
Made from a porcelain composite, this cute jarlett measures approximately 2.6cm by 2.4cm and is complete. You can even see some of the blue design which has worn away after being submerged in sea water for over half a century! Complete with original labels and salvage catalogue number: 219405.
I have a few Hoi An pieces in my own personal collection too, they are fabulous and holding one feels like being taken back to a time long gone.
